Top 6 Favorite Things to Do on Bonaire

By GM Chris Opgenoort

Bonaire is a truly beautiful island, and as the General Manager of Delfins Beach Resort Tapestry Collection by Hilton, I’m fortunate to call it home. Whether you’re here for a laid-back getaway or looking for some adventure, Bonaire has something for everyone. To help you make the most of your time on the island, I’m excited to share my top six favorite activities - each offering a unique experience and a chance to discover the charm of Bonaire.

1. Maiky Snack  – The Best Stobá on the Island

If you want to get a real taste of Bonaire, Maiky Snack is a must-visit. This local spot serves the best kabritu stobá (goat stew) on the island—a flavorful dish that will give you a true sense of the island’s culture. The casual atmosphere and delicious food make it an ideal place for lunch or dinner, and it’s a favorite among both locals and visitors. Don’t miss out on this authentic culinary experience!

2. Rumba Café Simple Food, Great Vibes

Sometimes, all you need is good food and a great vibe. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Rumba Café. With its relaxed atmosphere, lively music, and tasty menu, Rumba Café is the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. Whether you’re enjoying a drink with friends or savoring a hearty meal, the friendly service and upbeat energy will make it a memorable experience.

3. Lac Cai  A Hidden Gem

Lac Cai is one of Bonaire’s quieter spots. Tucked away from the usual tourist areas, this tranquil beach is perfect for those seeking solitude and the island’s natural beauty.

The calm waters make it great for swimming or fishing, and the serene atmosphere allows you to truly relax and take in the island’s charm.

It’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the quieter side of Bonaire.

4. Wasao Hike   Stunning Views of Goto Lake

For nature lovers, the Wasao Trail is a must-do. This scenic hike takes you through Bonaire’s picturesque landscape and leads to a fantastic viewpoint overlooking Goto Lake. The panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains are breathtaking. It’s a peaceful spot to connect with nature and enjoy a quiet moment in one of Bonaire’s most beautiful areas. It’s ideal for a morning hike or a calm afternoon stroll.

5. Brandaris beklimmen  A Family Favorite

For a bit of adventure, climbing Brandaris, Bonaire’s second-highest peak, is an unforgettable experience. The hike to the top is fun and challenging, but the views from the summit are worth the effort—spectacular views of the island and the surrounding Caribbean Sea.

It’s a fantastic family activity that offers both a physical challenge and a chance to bond while taking in the beauty of Bonaire from above.

6. Playa Frans   A Unique Dive Spot

If you’re a diving enthusiast—or just curious about the underwater world—Playa Frans should be on your list. Known for its unique dive spots, Playa Frans offers a stunning underwater landscape filled with colorful coral reefs and abundant marine life. The journey to the dive site is an adventure in itself, and once you’re in the water, you’ll be amazed by the beauty that lies beneath the surface.

I hope these tips inspire you to explore Bonaire and discover the island the way I do. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a taste of local culture, Bonaire has something for everyone. I look forward to hearing about your own adventures and hope you enjoy your time here as much as I do!

Warm regards,

Chris Opgenoort
