a high adrenalin sport

This extreme sport lets you harness the power of the wind. Kitesurfing is a high adrenalin sport that combines the intensity of boardsports with sailing and paragliding. This extreme sport lets you harness the power of the wind with a large kite as you skim on the water on your board.

Kitesurfing spot

Bonaire is a protected marine park, so kitesurfing is restricted to one location on the island, Atlantis Beach. This area is the perfect spot for kitesurfing because it has flat water and year-round steady wind, which is essential to the sport. Atlantis Beach’s weather conditions make it possible for kiteboarders of all skill levels to enjoy the sport almost every day with a constant northeast wind between 15 and 25 knots and water temperature which is always at 28°C, thus making it one of the most popular kitesurfing spots in the world.

First-timers

Beginners or anyone who simply wants to try out kitesurfing should consider Bonaire as their training ground. Not only are the conditions on the island perfect for learning the sport, but Bonaire Kiteschool also offers lessons and equipment rental.

Lessons

Kitesurfing is a very physically challenging sport. It usually takes a rider at least three lessons before you can get up and glide on the water, so don't get too worried if you don't quite get it on the first try. With the right teachers and the ideal conditions such as on Bonaire, you'll get the hang of it in no time. Visit FX Bonaire Kiteschool for lessons or more information.
